The Ghesquière Époque / by Mike Tyle

Needless to say the past couple of seasons sans Nicolas just haven't been the same. But rest be assured yesterday the LV Twitter confirmed the inevitable news and frankly no so secret secret that... ta-da! Monsieur Ghesquière is of course the new Artistic Director for Womenswear at Louis Vuitton.

I am quite excited as my love of anything Ghesquière knows no bounds and it will be quite interesting to say the least to see what we have in store as I am sure will be quite different from how it was under the reins of Marc Jacobs.

the two are very different designers. Marc Jacobs is as theatrical as they can get where as Nicolas Ghesquière is known for his architectural modern views on fashion and his take on archive pieces made new again. In a way this will really be a chance for him to show what he is capable of since LV has basically just had Marc as head of prêt-à-porter since it began in 1997 (side note- 16 years is a freaking LONG time in the fashion business to stay at one place but I am sure LV is a pretty cozy place to be minus the insurmountable stress of a brand that is looked at by all). While Nicolas may have A LOT to draw from in such a short period I am sure he will want to break free from the mold.

With his counterpart Kim Jones doing a fantastic job on the Menswear side and let's not forget ex- Prenza Schouler accessories designer Darren Spaziani joining to spearhead the ever-popular iconic accessories dept.  with even more "high-end" styles. I am excited to see how the Vuitton house will change starting with FW14 and grow in the coming seasons and years.

Good luck Nicolas!
