OOTD

Travels and such by Mike Tyle

Basically what all of Dresden looks like.

I'm well over do for an update as to what I've been up to the past couple of months aside from catwalk reviews (pre-fall is under way)!

if I haven't been working overtime finishing the Fall collections before the holiday break and Chinese New Year begins then I have been traveling.

I try and make sure I still keep my sanity by getting away when I can. The past 2 months I have done some long weekend trips "close to home" visiting Dresden, Prague (so beautiful, it was like a dream!), Luxembourg, Brussels and most recently spending the weekend in Zurich (more about that in my next post!).

Prague from above.

Horses in Prague are styling!

Brussels by night.

In other news... I've also becoming increasingly obsessed with interior design. As one can see on my Pinterest... While I haven't done much with my place since I moved in, I have gotten some great ideas in the works!

As always when one fashion week ends another is just around the corner and I am already on to Pre-Fall 14 reviews. I am trying to think of a new way to post them which is a bit more interactive and less... like the list that it looks like.

Oh, and my parents & sister are coming to visit on Saturday for 10 days!!

P.S.- I got a mohawk.

Fashion Month begins by Mike Tyle

Fashion Week has begun! Naturally I LOVE it.

I had almost forgotten about Fashion Night Out which was here on Friday night in Düsseldorf. It is always fun to see everyone dressed up for the occasion and having a good time! A lot of stores along Königsallee (Germany's busiest, luxury shopping street) had special events and parties. I met up with a friend of mine and tried to hit up as many stores as possible and see what specials were going on. Most of our luck was spent trying new cocktails, whoops!

In other news I have been diligently working away on the city guides which I have written in earlier post about. I have also decided to add the current city I live in, Düsseldorf, as well as my home town area just for fun and to show that even in a place not as well recognized as Paris or Berlin there are still things to see and do.

Sadly, 2 photo shoots I was set to be styling this weekend have been canceled because of bad weather. Damn you Germany and your rain! Hopefully the rescheduled day will cooperate.

To end the post here are a couple random outfits from the past week. I think the best thing about fashion is you can wake up and be yourself but show it in a different way everyday. There is something about having a distinct look where people know your style, which is great. I would say that while I usually gravitate toward similar items when shopping I also like to mix it up. Maybe one day dress in a more business look, then the next an easy comfy casual style or something darker. It all depends on my mood.

Blurred lines.

Sweater- Vintage bought in Antwerp (been wearing it non-stop!) , T-shirt- Zara, Jeans- Levi's, Shoes- Mr. B's, bag- Opening Ceremony

closer look at the shoes.

I love how a simple t-shirt can easily become more intricate just by adding symmetrical dividing seams.

A friend of mine, Maksim , has a great eye for light and always has his vintage camera (1958) on him randomly took this pic of me at work the other day.

Odd camera angle... but was heading off to work and the lighting was great!

Shirt- Rick Owens Drkshdw (sample say, hey!), Pants- Marc by Marc Jacobs (oldie but goodies)

Antwerp and the days surrounding by Mike Tyle

As stated in my previous post things, as well as in the title, I went to Antwerp this past Friday for work, check my Antwerp gallery I just made to show off some of the things I saw.

I always love traveling any chance I can get and the luxury of life in Europe especially in the Rhine-Ruhr is that I am close to a lot of great places. A two hour car ride and voila you can be in Antwerp, Brussels or Amsterdam. A bit over two hours longer and in Paris!

Last shopping trip a couple months ago we went to Amsterdam so this time the team split up again and I headed to Antwerp with a couple other designers. We had a great time. The weather was nice and I'm pretty sure we shopped the entire city. Seriously, on foot from 10-9 with a 30 min break. We got some exciting finds in the vintage shops and great books that will come in handy as well.

I'm working on a city guide which I hope to have finished and posted soon...

In the mean time here are some looks from the past week:

Walking home from work... armless.

shirt- Gap kids, tie- vintage leather tie (one of my faves) I found while in Italy.

Jeans ripped in both legs the same day! These pants are at least 8 yrs old. I don't even know where I got them from...

Also I feel like this looks like those "hot dogs or legs?" pics, ha!

t-shirt- Character Hero jaquard weave.

My plants were dying in the house but are thriving on the balcony! AKA away from me.

shirt- COS, pants- H&M, shoes- COS, backpack- from middle school, ha!

Pouring rain I was stuck in the house on the weekend.

v-neck sweater- J.Crew, shorts- American Apparel, belt- Banana Republic

Obsessed with this Banana Republic belt.

2nd monday by Mike Tyle

Allergies have kicked it up a notch since the weekend, the weather has cooled down considerably which makes it difficult to leave my bed in the morning and underwear seems to be a better option than actual pants.

It's only Tuesday but I swear it's Monday 2.0...

All in all I am happy with what I did manage on throwing on in less than 5 min between jumping out of bed and the train leaving for work. Lo and behold:

New sweatshirt: Zara

Last min change of pants, much better color scheme!

Ikea and college by Mike Tyle

It happened. Ikea made me it's bitch yet again.

But now I have nice things and my apartment is slowly coming together. I am going for a contemporary minimalistic sort of look. Hence paired down walls and clean lines mixed with pops of bright colors.

I am also hoping to painting a sort of Missoni chevron along one wall of my living room. I'll keep you updated if things go as planned.

Also, I have been lucky enough to be asked by my alma mater to speak at Career Day. I am incredibly excited and humbled that the Apparel Merchandising & Design department at CMU feels I have already reached a point where I can give advice and guidance to the young professionals whom I will someday considered my peers. I remember always being excited for Career Day when I was an undergraduate. It's great to see people who have completed the program and are making a life for themselves after.

In other news work has been well. August is a good month in Europe. Most people are on vacation, which means September will be a bit stressful. Can't wait! In the mean time I have been able to do some mean BBQing and of course hitting up the end of les soldes.

New shoes- Esprit

I love a colored sole.

Cardigan- H&M, T-shirt- COS

Weekend by Mike Tyle

This weekend I'm spending some time getting things around the apartment accomplished... mainly cleaning. No sense to glamorize it. But it needs to be done! Especially since I have been going ever since I have been home. If you see this pic on my Instagram from Friday my pathetic refrigerator can give you a good clue of how often I have been around.

Last weekend however I had a really great time. My friend Helena came over to pick up her nice new Coach bag I was able to get for her while I was in the U.S. and I must say it is really nice! Simple high quality leather can make all the difference. Good choice Helena! Also, shout out to the Coach store at Somerset Collection! It was a pleasant shopping experience which luckily every time I have been there I have gotten great service.

The weather was really nice as well and I was luckily able to spend the majority of it outside made all the better by a new shirt from a very special someone!

shoes: Kenneth Cole

shorts: Tourist by Burkman Bros. t-shirt: Acne, blazer: H&M, belt: Fossil

part deux by Mike Tyle

The second half of my trip home was spent in upstate NY visiting my good friend and all around awesome lady Krysta. She was home for the summer from London and while we are only a hop, skip and a jump away from one another in Europe we seem to find ourselves in the U.S. at the best time to be in the U.S.- summer!

We spent most the time doing what we do best... visiting sites, eating food, enjoying a beach/pool/mini-cooper. Below are some examples doing just that.

At the Empire State Plaza in Albany, NY.

Had I known about the dinner plans this would have just been a day outfit...

Krysta told me we were going out but I didn't know we were GOING OUT...

Krysta- sunglasses: Prada, dress: Herve Leger, purse: Louis Vuitton

Me- shirt: J.Crew, bow tie: vintage Lanvin, shorts: COS, belt: Fossil, sandals: Mango, sunglasses: Burberry

Time flies by Mike Tyle

Since being back I have been getting into the daily schedule at work, catching up with meetings, sifting though emails (only 750!) and being inspired by my surroundings. Which is a great thing; but getting a chance to relax is also great and spending time with family and friends is more than wonderful and not to be take for granted!

I will be adding a few new albums soon of my 3 weeks at home, which I am still trying to decide how to split it up between themes... but in the mean time a long awaited style post (Part 1)! See below for the results and I hope everyone is having a wonderful summer!

P.S.- there will be some repetition in pieces as I was limited by a suitcase, but I did my best to make it work depending on the event at hand!

My friends Jen and Sarah and I in Detroit at Campus Martius, in the winter this "beach" is an ice skating rink!

Insta-satisfaction by Mike Tyle

As anyone who knows me can surely attest to my photo taking ways the past 3 weeks are no different. I have somehow amassed almost 2,000 pics!

While I have begun to sort through all the memories of this wonderful vacation I was able to spend with family and friends I have started-up my Instagram to capture the random highlights of my daily life. Please feel free to follow me there for quick updates.

Here's a sneak peek from the holiday outfit highlight post I am working on.
